Welcome to Gran Canaria, Spain

Tourism in Gran Canaria

When most people think of Gran Canaria, the largest of Spain’s Canary Islands, images of vast beach resorts come to mind. Although a Mecca for sun worshipers and beachgoers, this geographically unique island offers far more. The mountainous inland is home to the Cross of Tejeda, surrounded by vast hiking trails that lead to sensational views of the coast. Hikers will be amazed by Caldera Bandama, a volcanic crater that is lined with trails and a surprisingly lush golf course on its outer slopes. Nearby, ancient homes are carved into the soft rock cliffs. Botanical gardens can be found across the island, the largest in the capital city of Las Palmas. Near here are the nationally preserved Maspalomas sand dunes that stretch for miles to the sea. This is where you will find some of the best known island resorts, covered in colorful umbrellas and lively beach bars. For those with a flair for adventure, the coastal town of Mogan offers some of the best diving and boating excursions on the island.
